Both Emma & Katie began dancing at a young age at their grandmother’s dance school in Surrey. Emma trained as a professional dancer in the early 90s at The Jazz Dance School in Bath, followed by Bodyworks Performing Arts in Cambridge. Katie continued with dance training up into her teens and then after University went straight into teaching all styles of dance.
How they started First Dance Ltd
Back in 2002, two of their friends were getting married and asked for help with their First Dance as they didn’t want to just “stand and sway.” After a couple of lessons and a few glasses of wine (!), they put together a little routine for them and taught them how to dance as a couple. It was a big hit on the day and two years later Emma & Katie found themselves still teaching first dances to couples who had been at the wedding and wanted something for their first dance.

Three years later they opened up their own dance studio in Woking – First Dance Studios – and started teaching adult dance classes and first dances on a regular basis. First Dance Ltd has won several awards including Virgin Radio’s Small Business Award and the Wrapit Wedding Awards.
